As an advocate for the environment, Dr. So integrated the advocacy in the very purpose and operations of the business itself. Ecosystem enables organizations to become responsible actors in sustainable construction and facilities management.
As a philanthropist, Dr. So first contributed to the effort to rehabilitate the Pasig River by becoming the technical resource and consultant for the ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation’s program Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig in 2010. He then provided manpower and funds for the construction of the Materials Recovery Facility in Paco, Manila.
His support for this effort continued and continues in his design, construction, and operation of an proprietary Sequence Bio Reactor for the Estero de Paco rehabilitation effort, treating the sewage of the Paco Public Market and the estero itself, providing recycled water for reuse of the market, and for recharging the estero with clean water. He was honored as the Most Outstanding for the Environment in 2015. He also served as President of the Rotary Club of Makati South, and during his tenure he was awarded the Paul Harris pin for contributions to Rotary International, and he founded the Rotary Satellite Club Aguadores — a sub-organization of water professionals providing District 3830 with professional resources for their Water and Sanitation project efforts. For these contributions to Philanthropy, Dr. So was conferred his Doctorate of Humanities Honoris Causa by the Western Mindanao State University in 2018. In 2019, he was honored by the Students’ Actions Vital to the Environment and Mother Earth Movement as one of the Top Outstanding Movers in Championing the Environment in a ceremony at Malacanang.
ILOVE is a foundation chaired and founded by former Secretary of Environment and Natural Resource Regina L. Lopez that provides financial, technical, and management resources to organizations supporting sustainable village/community based economies in remote areas of the Philippines.
The expression of So’s Philanthropy is that of Environmental Protection in the domain of Sustainable Human Development. He has progressed from providing financial and technical consulting for rehabilitation projects, towards a holistic approach as taken by ILOVE; where environmental sustainability is part of the economic bottom line of the village community as a developmental entity.
After the untimely passing of ILOVE’s founder Gina Lopez, the organization is folded into the ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, within its Bantay Kalikasan Program. Dr. So continues his work with them as an independent donor for the development activities in Zamboanga.

In 2019, he was honored by the Students’ Actions Vital to the Environment and Mother Earth (SAVE ME) Movement as one of the Top Outstanding Movers in Championing the Environment in a ceremony at Malacanang. This is also in recognition for Dr. So’s unwavering support for the Society of Environmental Engineers in the Philippines throughout the years, of which he is an honorary member of.
