Dr. Robert Y. So holds more than ten patents in water and wastewater related technologies, two of which have been honored as finalists in the Intellectual Property Awards of 2017, presented by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
In terms of technological leadership, Dr. So introduced Ultraviolet Treatment in the Philippines in 1989, advanced Sewage recycling and reuse in 2002 (using his patented technology), and uninterrupted (relative to turbidity) drinking water production in 2017

As an entrepreneur, Dr. So founded Ecosystem Technologies, Inc. in 1995 which emerged as a leader in the water and wastewater engineering and construction space by offering legitimate and effective technology for over two decades, as a lead designer for both the originating company and the joint venture with Metro Pacific.
As a philanthropist and an advocate for the environment.
Dr. So integrated the advocacy in the very purpose and operations of the business itself. Eco-System enables organizations to become responsible actors in sustainable construction and facilities management. As a philanthropist, Dr. So first contributed to the effort to rehabilitate the Pasig River by becoming the technical resource and consultant for the ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation’s program Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig in 2010.
